Match Report: Usher Celtic 0-4 Seaford Rock United
FAI Junior Cup, Round One
Seaford laid some demons to rest and progressed to the second round of the FAI Junior Cup with a commanding display at the Memorial Gardens.
The Penguins had suffered a humiliating elimination from the LFA Junior Cup a week earlier , throwing away a 3-0 half time lead to lose against ROC Celtic. But here the visitors started on the front foot and were aggrieved not to be awarded a penalty after both Jim Nolan and Ryan Scollard were felled in the same attack, but referee Besim Bajrami was unmoved and Scollard was able to continue after treatment.
And just like the previous weekend, Seaford netted three goals late in the first half to put themselves in the box seat. First, from Paul Tansey’s long throw, Jack Burke produced a brilliant left-foot snapshot that gave Dylan Bassett no chance .
Immediately from the restart , Scollard made it two, running on to a brilliant Lewis Cawley through-ball to kick the ball past Bassett and walk it into the net.
And Sam Browne made it 0-3 on 40 minutes , the Boogler showing great determination to outmuscle Usher’s giant defender Paul Durno, before trickling the ball into the net.
Seaford were determined that there would be no repeat of the previous week’s calamity, and continued to offer plenty of forward threat . Scollard put the outcome beyond doubt on 63 minutes , as his relentless running and doggedness saw him get on the end of a Tansey clearance , overpower a defender and deceive Bassett with a near-post finish.
Seaford: Oisin Geoghegan, Darragh Roche, Paul Tansey, Al Kennedy, Ian Nolan, , Sam Browne (Dave Lewis, 74), Jim Nolan (Conor Geoghegan, 69), Chris Monk, Jack Burke (Oli Wright, 71), Lewis Cawley (Fionn Geoghegan, 71), Ryan Scollard, (Dan O'Leary , 74),
Usher Celtic: Dylan Bassett, Luke McDonald (Luke Canning), Eddie Towell, Paul Durno, Anthony Hopkins, Taigh Keogh, Dylan McKenna, Luke Darcy (Dylan Byrne), Eric Douglas, James Cullen, Michael Early (Damien Doyle)
