Match Report: TEK United 2-3 Seaford FC
LSL Saturday Major 1C
Niall Holleran converted a late penalty to secure all three points for Seaford in a rollercoaster of a match Blackrock derby.
The Penguins had the better of the first half chances, but neither side could break the deadlock. Teenage winger Finn O'Neill, making his first Seaford start, was especially in the early exchanges , forcing Samuel Roeder into a good early save before crossing for Holleran to head inches over.
At the other end Simon O'Brien blazed after the top after Simon O'Brien had put him clean through, before forcing Oisin Geoghegan into a smart save low to his right.
Late in the half, O’Neill bamboozled Jafet Madrigal Albenda with some brilliant dribbling , and squared for Chris Monk, but the tireless Scot fired over.
It was TEK who opened the scoring on 52, as Jack Mahon cut back to O'Brien , who produced a precise finish low into the corner of the net.
Seaford leveled within five minutes, as a brilliant slamming run from Aaron Clarke earned a penalty which Mate Salacan converted.
The hosts should have restored their lead when Stephen Taite Brown followed up a rebound but struck the crossbar from close range, but instead the Penguins took the lead through substitute Ciaran Staunton, who tapped home after Shane Gilroy’s effort was taken off the line.
It was 2-2 on 81 minutes as Jade Kendrick Doyle swept the ball into the far corner from 20 yards giving Geoghegan no chance, setting up a grandstand finale.
And it was the visitors who claimed the opening day win.
There was drama with five to play, as Monk and Staunton saw their efforts denied by goalline blocks - but the latter was clearly by Christopher Byrne'’s hand and the referee had already blown for the penalty before the ball was finally forced it over the line . Holleran kept his nerve to convert.
Against ten men in the dying stages, Zitian Xiang almost added a fourth with a cheeky back heel and debutant Eoin O’Farrell also went close, but Seaford had already done enough to secure the win, a fitting reward for a gutsy display in the sunshine.
