Match Report: SVS 2-0 Seaford FC
LSL Saturday Major 1C
SVS were well worth the win as they inflicted the Penguins’ first defeat on the season in sunny conditions in Loughlinstown.
The hosts were two up inside 12 minutes.. debutant keeper Conor Colman denied Jack Dunne within sixty seconds but the visitors failed to deal with the resulting corner and the same man managed to convert from close range.
Then Zitian Xiang was adjudged to have tripped Jake McShane-O’Toole in the box and Gavin Doyle slotted home the spot-kick.
Seaford struggled to create chances in the first half, their best opportunity falling to Niall Holleran after keeper Dean McCormack came out of his box but failed to clear convincingly. Holleran’s long-range effort aimed at the unguarded goal was deflected wide for a corner.
SVS ought to have put tog game beyond reach early in the second half, as both Jack Moran and McShane-O’Toole squandered headers, but Seaford’s substitutions helped turn the tide and the Penguins started applying more pressure.
Shane Halpin was put through on goal by Holleran but was unable to lift the ball over McCormack, and the substitute striker had another great chance when McCormack fumbled Eoin O’Farrell’s effort.
Two more subs combined when Peter Bardon met Desmond Eiffe’s free-kick with a powerful header but McCormack was well placed to keep it out, and the hosts were able to hold on to their clean sheet as well as all three points.
