Match Report: Stella Maris 0-5 Seaford Rock United
LSL Saturday Premier 1
Seaford made their superiority count with an emphatic win in Drumcondra.
After a couple of disappointing defeats had punctured the early-season promise, Paulie Morris's refreshed his lineup, handing out several debuts and the overhaul had the desired effect, as the Penguins turned in a superb display.
The visitors looked assured from the outset largely playing the match in the Stella half, but had to wait 26 minutes to open the scoring, as one of the men making his first start for the club, Dave Lewis, met a Mate Salacan free kick with a bullet header that gave James Collier no chance.
I t was very nearly two goals in quick succession, as Colin Barrett bravely won a high ball ahead of Collier, but somehow the bouncing ball eluded Killian Campion at the far post.
But Barrett's tenacity was rewarded with an assist on 37 minutes, as he hassled a mistake out of a Stella Maris defender before squaring for Richie Mulholland to tap in.
Seaford continued to control the game into the second half, with a mazy dribble from Mulholland leading to Niall Holleran firing inches over, before two goals in as many minutes put the outcome beyond doubt.
First, Barrett followed up to finish after Collier had denied Holleran, and moments later Salacan saw his outswinging cross loop dirclty into the net to make it 0-4.
And further gloss was added to the scoreline in injury time when substitute Cian McCabe lashed home from the edge of the box after being picked out by another Salacan delivery.
Seaford: Gavin Nugent Steve Kane (Oisin Ferriter, 43), Brian Mullally, Cian McGuinness, Dave Lewis, Mate Salacan, Peter McGee (Carl Doyle, 88), Killian Campion, Niall Holleran (Joe O'Hara,74), Richie Mulholland (Alex Sinnott, 69), Colin Barrett (Cian McCabe , 86)
