Match Report: St Kevin's Boys 1-2 Seaford Rock United
LSL Sat Major !A
Seaford ended the year and the decade on a high with a superb display and a big win away at St Kevin’s.
Against one of the elite clubs in Dublin, the Penguins started on the front foot with Stephen Canavan slipping Chris Monk in on goal within three minutes. The in-form Scot nicked the ball past Godfrey Yoro 25 yards from goal , only to be cleaned out by the big keeper , who received only a yellow card.
At the other end Rpbbie Moran was called into action after Keith Rooney pounced on a defensive error and cracked a dipping shot at goal , but the veteran stopper made a brilliant reflex save to tip the ball onto the bar.
But Steve Doyne opened the scoring with Kevin’s first shot on target, bursting through midfield and letting go of a long range effort that bobbled into the corner of the net.
Seaford’s response was instant, as winger Garrett Connolly bamboozled Adam Duffy before cutting into his left foot, and his cross found Canavan at the back post to level the scores just before the half time break.
The visitors continued to control proceedings into the second half and deservedly hit the front on 56 minutes. After twice going agonisingly close from consecutive Darragh Connolly corners, it was third time lucky as his brother Garrett challenged with Yoro for the ball and somehow overcame the height deficit to get his head on it, with Monk pouncing to volley home his seventh in four matches.
Darragh Connolly had been bright in the number ten role and almost had a goal for his efforts after a deft through-ball from Canavan but his toe-poked effort was blocked by Yoro, and Yoro then made a stunning save with his feet to deny substitute David Higgins, deflecting inches wide.
Kevin’s changed formation and threw men forward to find an equaliser but they couldn’t muster a clear chance, and it was Seaford who looked more likely to add to the scoring, as Harry Crowe went close with a first-time effort and some dogged defensive play saw the Penguins over the finishing line.
