Match Report: Seaford Rock United 5-3 Vianney Boys
LSL Saturday Premier 1
Seaford ended a wait of almost six months for win with a display of scintillating finishing against Vianney Boys.
After a series of frustrating draws since the resumption of play , the Penguin started brightly and were well worth the opening goal on 15 minutes, when Conor Geoghegan met an Owen Brayden free kick and found the top corner . Their advantage was short lived however as Vianney’s star man Evan Byrne pounced on a lapse of defensive concentration and coolly lobbed Barry Ensor.
Geoghegan was left wondering how he hadn’t added his second when he met another Brayden delivery from three yards, but somehow his downward header bounced up and hit the crossbar.
But two quick goals early in the second half put Seaford in a dominant position. First, Collie Barrett smashed in a penalty after keeper Andy Vickery slid in rashly on Niall Holleran. Seconds after the restart, Seaford were in again, as Vickery produced a stunning double save to deny Barrett from a Paul Tansey cross, only for Oli Wright to find the corner of a net, after Christian McKenna set him up.
Vianney won a penalty of their own when Matty Sheehan was harshly adjudged to have tripped Callum Murphy , which Byrne rifled home, but Wright was in the mood for goals, and drew another brilliant Vickery save with an accurate header from Tansey cross.
The veteran midfielder didn’t have to wait much longer though, smashing home a sensational first-time volley from the end of the box after substitute Brian Mullally feed him up.
Not to be outdone , Barrett made it 5-2 with a terrific curling strike into the top corner for his 60th career goal. Vianney rallied in the final few minutes, pulling one back through Steo McGuinness before Ben Moloney’s deflected free kick forced Ensor Into an impressive reaction save
Eoin Dunne’s men will finish their season with a home tie against DAA.
