Match Report: Seaford Rock United 5-2 Swords Celtic
LSL Saturday Premier
Shane Halpin better a fine hat-trick as Seaford eased to a 5-2 win to get their season back on track.
After suffering a first defeat of the season seven days earlier, Paulie Morris’s side hit the front early on as Halpin raced on to Oli Wright’s ball over the top and from near the touchline lifted the ball expertly over Alex Kavanagh and into the net.
Swords leveled immediately through Shane Verdon , who was left in too much space to finish after Erasmons Adjei had won the first header.
But Sniffer Halpin bagged again to restore the Penguins’ lead and it was another superb finish , this time meeting Owen Brayden's cross with a volley at the near post which Kavanagh was unable to keep out .
Seaford continued to make all the running after half time but saw a string of chances go begging. Gavin Walsh blazed over from 10 yards after Mate Salacan had cut the ball back to him, before Halpin sped on to Aaron Clarke’s piercing through-ball, only to see Kavanagh claw the ball away from the top corner. And then Brian Murphy’s cross was met at the back post by Rob O'Shea, whose effort was just off-target.
The hosts finally gained some breathing space on 62 when Salacan worked a short corner routine to tee up Halpin to volley home from close range.
Swords almost hit back immediately again through Mikey Carroll, whose curled effort grazed the woodwork, but instead substitute Niall Holleran made it 4-1, finishing into an empty net after Oisin Geoghegan’s punt forward had set O’Shea free.
It wasn’t quite the comfortable finale Seaford might have hoped for , as Eoin Kenny was sent off in bizarre circumstances, before David Udoh prodded home for Swords, but it was the impressive O’Shea who had the finely say, rolling the ball into the unguarded net after Brayden had punished Kavanagh’s error.
The win is Seaford’s fourth in six matches at the start of the campaign and maintains their status as the early-season front-runners.
Seaford: Oisin Geoghegan, David Mackey (Eoin McArdle, 66), Brian Murphy, Steve Kane, Oli Wright, Mate Salacan (Eoin Dunne, 79), Gavin Walsh (Rob Maloney, 60), Owen Brayden, Rob O'Shea , Aaron Clarke (Niall Holleran, 68), Shane Halpin (Eoin Kenny, 77)
