Match Report: Seaford Rock United 3-1 Rivervalley Rangers
LSL Saturday Premier 1
Seaford delivered a strong all-round display to pick up a first win of the season against Rivervalley Rangers.
The home side put themselves in a commanding position inside the first quarter of an hour. Aaron Hartnett had already seen his volley from Owen Brayden’s corner cleared off the line before Mark Sullivan gave Seaford the lead on 7 minutes. The goal was made by Pawel Politowski, who intercepted Gary Forde’s pass and burst into the area before teeing up Sullivan to squeeze the ball into the net at the second attempt.
And it got better for the men in navy when Collie Barrett added a superb second on 14. Fullback Matt Sheehan chipped an inch-perfect pass into Barrett, who controlled the ball expertly on his chest before slotting past Stephen McNally.
Seaford’s pacey front four continued to terrorise the Rovers defend but they were unable to add to their tally before half time, and the visitors enjoyed their best spell in the match just after the break. First, Shane Gunning curled just past the post from the edge of the box before Rivervalley were awarded a penalty for Shay Egan’s trip on David Daley, and Daire O’Connor halved the deficit from the spot
But Seaford wasted no time in restoring their two-goal advantage, and it was another brilliant finish. This time Barrett was the provider, teeing up Politowski, who unleashed a rocket into the top corner.
The rest of the match was low on goalmouth action, with Egan coming close to his first Seaford goal with a cross that clipped the crossbar , and at the other end Stephen McGivern ought to have converted from Gunning’s low cross, but there was to be no further scoring, so Seaford claimed their first three points of the campaign to move off the bottom of the Premier 1 table.
