Match Report: Seaford Rock United 3-1 Railway Union
LSL Major 1 Saturday
Seaford's Majors maintained their strong start to 2023 with a superb win over a classy Railway Union outfit a Rockfield Park.
The Penguins hit the front near the midway point in the half. Zitian Xiang started the move, finding Jimmy Hussey before Dan Kennedy spun away from his marker brilliantly. He smashed in an effort from a tight angle, which was saved, but he followed up to prod home his first ever Seaford goal.
There wasn't much between the sides before the break, but the hosts pulled clear in the second half. The crucial second goal was also set up by Hussey, who collected a fine reverse pass from Conor Geoghegan, and although his effort was saved, the Railway keeper let it squirm out of his hands and Ryan Scollard was on hand to finish on the goalline.
Elridge Altereitth came off the bench to add a classy third, collecting Geoghegan's through-ball before sitting the keeper down with a stylish shimmy and passing into the net.
The visitors pulled one back late on after Rob O'Shea was penalised for a trip in the box, and Mark Shaw made no mistake from the spot but the two-goal margin was no more than Seaford deserved and the win keeps them in contention for an unlikely promotion to the top-flight.
