Match Report: Seaford Rock United 3-0 Blackrock College
LSL Saturday Major 1C
Seaford got their first home win in two months to move up to second place in Saturday Major 1 C in local derby against Blackrock College AFC.
After a cagey opening quarter hour on a heavy pitch, Rob O'Shea tested the keeper with a left-footed effort before the deadlock was broken in the 24th minute. Desmond Eiffe played an intelligent pass inside to Shane Halpin, whose lay-off was despatched into the top left-hand corner with a stunning first time effort from Eoin Kenny to get his second goal of the season.
Seaford got a deserved second in the 42nd minute when Mate Salacan burst through the visitors' midfield and clipped into the path of Halpin , who scored with a trademark lob to double the advantage. 2-0 at half-time.
Blackrock changed shape going into the second half and began to assert themselves into the game but the decisive third came in the 50th minute. Halpin drew a foul and the edge of the box and O’Shea stepped up to smash home from 20 yards. That was the end of the scoring and Blackrock created some clear openings but were denied be the Seaford rearguard.
A late penalty was Blackrock's best chance of a consolation but it went just past the post. The Penguins almost added a fourth when Ciaran Staunton flicked on to Niall Thomson, whose deft chip just floated past the far post.
Seaford: Aaron Clarke, Luke Hedderman, Robbie Murray, Oli Wright, Mate Salacan (Jamie Donohoe, 71), Rob O'Shea, Conor Fennell (Niall Thomson, 65), Desmond Eiffe (Chenghao Liu, 77) , Shane Halpin (Ciaran Staunton, 77), Eoin Kenny (Oisin Mallon, 65)
