Match Report: Seaford Rock United 2-6 Old County
LSL Saturday Major 1
Seaford’s season ended on a fitting note, as they let a promising situation slip from their grasp with a late collapse in their final game against runaway Champions, Old County.
It was a dream start for the Penguins in who were two up within 20 minutes. Both were brilliantly taken strikes by Ryan Scollard who first received Rob O;Shea through ball and lobbed keeper Jamie Cleary before later getting on the end of Conor Geoghegan‘s pass to fire home with his left.
But Old County pulled one back in no time as Cillian Hudson headed home a Dylan Whelan corner.
Jimmy Hussey went close to a first ever Seaford goal but his curling effort from 22 yards was tipped wide by Cleary and at the other end Callum Keane was released by a superb Lee Gibson flick, but Oisin Geoghegan saved brilliantly before Darragh Roche managed to clear the ball off the line.
The visitors leveled early in the second half through Keane, before Whelan’s side-footed effort made it 2-3 just before the hour mark.
There followed Seaford‘s best attacking phase of the match as Scollard was twice denied his hat-trick by fine Cleary stops.
But the Penguins failed to make the pressure count and Old County gave themselves some daylight when a Keane fired home from the spot.
It might have been a tighter contest had Jamie McCaul ’s tap-in not been contentiously disallowed for offside , but instead the champions added two more in the space of three minutes , through Lee Gibson and Eoghan Roe, which gave the scoreline a flattering sheen, condemning Seaford to a fifth-place finish.
