Match Report: Seaford Rock United 2-2 St Kevin's Boys
LSL Saturday Major 1B
Oisin Geoghegan produced a superb goalkeeper performance as an exciting match swung in both directions before eventually ending all square, the point enough to take St Kevin's to the top of the table, while ending a three-game losing streak for Seaford.
The hosts were the better side in the first half, yet found themselves a goal behind as Kevin's netted with their only clearcut chance, as Keith Rooney laid in Steven Doyne to finish.
Otherwise, Seaford had created a host of opportunities, with Gavin Brown racing off his line to deny MJ Tierney, who had run onto Fionn Lawlor;s direct pass, before the keeper blocked a Collie Barrett effort with his legs with the Seaford striker clean through.
But Barrett, who had a fine game, wasn't to be denied for long and he levelled just after the break. Paul Tansey's ball over the top caused confusion in the Kevins back line, as Peter McElroy headed the ball past Brown. The ball was trickling wide of the post before Barrett pounced, winning the race to slide in ahead of McElroy and nick the ball around the post and into the net.
Kevin had looked toothless prior to then but suddenly sprung into life. Keith Rooney picked out Steven Doyne with a brilliant cross, but Geoghegan made a brilliant stop, and moments later he produced an even better one to deny Rooney himself, with Mike O'Neill also getting a crucial touch on the ball with a saving tackle.
Seaford's second, therefore, came against the run of play, as Tierney skinned Derek Cervy before firing home from a tight angle, but just as one Doyne had netted in the 32nd minute of the first half, another made it 2-2 in the same minute of the second, substitute Ciaran Doyne bundling the ball past Geoghegan at the second attempt.
The final ten minutes were frantic, with Geoghegan pulling off further saves amidst increasing pressure from the league leaders, even if the two clearest chances fell to Seaford's substitute Stephen Canavan, who was unable to connect from close-range from David Higgins's low cross, before glancing an injury header wide from Christian Firth's delivery.
