Match Report: Seaford Rock United 2-2 Portmarnock
LSL Sat Major 1A
.Seaford Rock United were denied a vital victory in their promotion push with the award of an injury time penalty in their 2-2 draw against Portmarnock AFC after a superb team performance which deserved all three points
On a scorching evening in Rockfield Park, the Penguins took the initiative early on with Ryan Scollard’s pace testing the visitors centre-backs of James Hendricken and Noel McGinnity, going close on two occasions. A sustained spell of pressure saw Seaford force five corners in a row before Pormarnock came back into the game to close out the first half goalless.
The home team started the second half strongly, with Fionn Lawlor’s dangerous cross causing havoc in the away side’s backline. Chris Monk forced a save from Dylan Fitzpatrick before, Al Kennedy had a big shout for a penalty turned down by the referee after looking to have been upended following a characteristic burst into the box.
The Penguins deservedly took the lead in the 73rd minute when Paul Tansey’s tantalising ball into the area was headed in emphatically at the back post by substitute Mike O'Neill. Portmarnock forced an equaliser in the 76th minute with Adam Green crashed in from 12 yards out.
Seaford reacted immediately and again took the game to the opposition and re-took the lead when Monk rose to head in Kennedy’s outswinging corner to make it 2-1 after 85 minutes. Barry Enspr was quick off his line to smother some late Portmarnock attacks, before the award of the late penalty, converted by Green.
After two games in three days, focus turns to Saturday’s trip to Drumcondra.
