Match Report: Seaford Rock United 2-1
LSL Saturday Major 1B
It wasn't pretty but Seaford bounced back from their cup disappointment a week earlier to keep their promotion push going with a scrappy win over their relegation-threatened guests.
Winger Darragh Connolly netted twice in the opening quarter hour as a thoroughly dominant Seaford side threatened to run riot, but Dundrum managed to cling on in the match and exerted some second half pressure, although rarely threatening Oisin Geoghegan's goal.
Seaford had already gone close before keeper Geoghegan played a role in the opening goal on three minutes, as his low pass found David Higgins in the centre circle, and the big midfielder laid Connolly through on goal to slide the ball past Damien Synnott.
The hosts were in total control, with Mike O'Neill heading inches wide from a Connolly cross, before Higgins almost created a second minutes later, but his low drilled cross eluded both Connolly and Collie Barrett. But it was 2-0 before long as Connolly was slipped in by O'Neill and again he made no mistake, finding the corner of the net from the edge of the box.
But out of nothing Dundrum hit back immediately, as Damien Duffy's snap shot from long range bounced found the corner of the net, and with their second attempt at goal they were millimetres from an unlikely equaliser, as Bryan Gaynor saw his superb volley on the turn rebound off the inside of the post.
The second half was a more even affair, but aide from a Gaynor free kick that clipped the post, Dundrum struggled to create clear opportunities, and Seaford held on for a third straight league win.
Seaford: Oisin Geoghegan; Steve Kane (Stephen Kelly, 86), Gavin Walsh, Ian Nolan, Fionn Lawlor, Oli Wright, Mike O'Neill (Sam Browne, 85) David Higgins (Andy Roe, 80) Darragh Connolly (Ryan Scollard, 85), MJ Tierney, Collie Barrett, (Stephen Canavan, 80) : Goals: Connolly (3, 14)
