Match Report: Seaford Rock United 2-1 Blackrock College
Rockfield Cup

Seaford won the inaugural Rockfield Cup fixture by edging neighbours Blackrock College in a scrappy tie.
Although the conditions made it tough for either side to play fluent football, the men in maroon largely controlled the match and might have won by a greater margin in the end.
Seaford opened the scoring on seven minutes. From Robbie Murray’s free kick, Chris Monk found space in the channel and forced a save from Jake Macken, before Rory O’Huiginn pounced to prod home his first goal in almost three years.
College leveled immediately when Tom Sheeran’s overshot free kick was fumbled into his net by Robbie Moran, a rare error from one of the season’s standout players.
Seaford created a host of chances during the middle period of the half. Conan Murphy saw his volley cleared off the line, before Monk’s long-range strike was impressively tipped wide by Macken, and the keeper was again at full stretch to prevent an own goal from Conor Cowhey.
On 32 minutes Matty Sheehan got what proved to be the decisive goal. Sweeping up to prevent a Blackrock counter-attack, Murray cleared the ball forward and Sheehan took advantage of lax defending to compose himself and smash it into the top corner from the edge of the box.
The second half was a scrappy affair, with Blackrock failing to muster a shot of note as they chased an equaliser, and the closest either side came was after Carl Doyle teed up his fellow sub Robbie Creevy, whose left-footed strike was deflected inches over.
The win made it three in a row for the Premiers, putting them in a strong position early on in the new competition.
