Match Report: Seaford Rock 2-0 Raheny United
LSL Saturday Major 1C
A goal in each half saw Seaford’s Premiers get the better of Raheny United in even contest at Rockfield Park.
On this first Seaford start, Jack Keegan tested Tom Keogh in the United goal with an early effort. There were chances at both ends, with the most presentable falling to Eoin Kenny, whose low effort was deflected wide by a Cathal Keane tackle. It was Aaron Clarke’s pinpoint pass that released Kenny and his battle with James McCaughley a feature of the opening exchanges.
The opening goal came from a Mate Salacan corner, that was flicked on by Oli Wright to Kenny, whose effort off the bar was forced over the line by Owen Petticrew for his first Penguin’s goal. The away side almost equalised moments later. Rob Maloney saved a point-blank header, the rebound fell to Liam O’Connor and his effort was cleared off the line by Petticrew’s spectacular clearance. 1-0 at the half.
Desmond Eiffe and Kenny had opportunities that they curled wide after some intricate midfield play from the men in Navy before the crucial second goal came in the 71st minutes.
Quick thinking from Salacan taking a corner short to substitute Luke Moynihan, led to the Kerryman’s cross go into via the far post. This one is still with dubious goals panel, with Shane Halpin claiming the final touch.
Raheny almost had a goal back from the kick-off but they were over eager at the restart and the effort was chalked off. Maloney made a brilliant late block from Sherlock to keep a clean sheet. The Penguins move up to 4th in Major 1C, with another home game on the horizon next week against Dublin University
