Match Report: Seaford Rock United 2-0 Larkview Boys
LSL Saturday Premier 1
Seaford Premiers recent run of decent performances finally got the win they deserved when they turned over Larkview Boys FC on a blustery afternoon at Rockfield Park.
The home side took their time to settle with Larkview dangerman Robert Sweeney a threat early doors. However, the midfield trio of Dave Lewis, Mate Salacan and Rory O'Huiginn began to assert their authority on the game and took control of the middle of the park.
Set-piece specialist MJ Tierney went close with a free kick and Killian Campion’s direct running left Conor Flynn in his wake, continuing to make inroads throughout the half.
Lewis headed another Tierney set-play over the bar before. Seaford took a deserved lead. Campion was fouled 30 yards out and Tierney struck a dipping free-kick that left Colin Jones with no chance.
The second half was a battle, with Lewis taking the brunt of a number of hefty challenges. Sweeney was kept quiet by right-back Conor Fennell, as the Penguins pushed for that second goal that eluded them in recent games.
It came in the 65th minute when Tierney’s corner was met by a towering header by O’Huiginn, scoring his first goal since returning to club. Seaford used the bench to take the sting out of the game, whilst in goal, Gavin Nugent smothered a late effort from Matthus McDonagh to record his third clean sheet of the season.
