Match Report: Seaford Rock United 2-0 Balbriggan
LSL Saturday Premier
Seaford got back to winning ways at Rockfield Park with a commanding victory over Balbriggan.
It had been a tough start to 2023 for Paulie Morris's men, with just one win from the previous six, but two goals in the opening ten minutes put the Penguins in control of the match, and they rarely looked threatened after that.
The first goal was brilliantly taken by Gavin Walsh, who received a Mate Salacan delivery,, turned and found the corner of the net. Another Salacan cross brought about the second, as Ryan Scollard won the first header before Stephen Kelly nodded home from close range.
Scollard was having plenty of joy down the left blank, and almost caused an own goal on 16,, as Jake Morris deflected the cross inches past the post.
Balbriggan didn't offer much until the very end of the half, when a Fanning free kick was met by a towering head from Fanning, but it was just too high, and moments later Neil Howarth made an excellent one-on-one save to protect his clean sheet.
Into the second half, Rob O'Shea had the ball in the net again for Seaford but it was ruled out for offside, and Scollard set up a good opportunity for Shane Halpin , but he was denied by a defender's block.
The visitors were reduced to ten men late on after a straight red card, as Seaford closed the game out comfortably to begin a busy week with three points.
Seaford: Neil Howarth, Eoin McArdle (Eoin Dunne, 86), Al Kennedy, Stephen Kelly Brian Murphy, Gavin Walsh, Mate Salacan (David Mackey, 69) Shane Gilroy (Antonio Beiramar, 80), Ryan Scollard,, Rob O'Shea, Shane Halpin, (Niall Holleran, 65) (Eddie Xiang, 88)
