Match Report: Seaford Rock United 1-7 Woodhazel
LSL Saturday Premier 1
Seaford were routed by the league-leaders in a one-sided match at Rockfield Park.
Woodhazel had already proven themselves to be far too strong for this level of football with their early-season results, and they took control of the match from the start. They had already gone close a couple of times before, on four minutes, Paul Delaney pounced on a defensive slip to tee up Thomas Carroll, who tapped home.
Seaford had a golden opportunity to level when Mike O'Neill met MJ Tierney's corner from close range but was unable to hit the target, but at the other end Delaney made no mistake when presented with an identical opportunity from Dylan McLaughlin's delivery.
It was game over when Lee Somers pounced on a rebound to convert with a cheeky finish, before the same man made it 4-0 with a stunning free kick.
To make matters worse for the hosts keeper Robbie Moran was forced off through injury at half time, with striker Francis Mulhall donning the gloves instead, but in fact Seaford rallied after the break and were much more competitive during the second period. O'Neill almost pulled one back after being picked out by Steve Kane , but Keith Hanney nettted twice in two minutes as Woodhazel continued to run up the score, before completing his hat-trick from the edge of the box to make it 7-0.
But Seaford deserved something to show for their efforts, and were eventually rewarded with the game's final goal, an extremely well worked effort started by skilful play from Rory O'Huiginn, who found Owen Brayden whose pass freed Conan Murphy and the winger finished brilliantly, rounding Eric Cumberton before slotting in from a tight angle.
Seaford: Robbie Moran (Rory O'Huiginn, h-t), Steve Kane, David Mackey (Brian Mullally, 70) Ian Nolan, Stephen Kelly, Mike O'Neill (Conan Murphy, 72), Gavin Walsh, Owen Brayden (Eoin Dunne, 89), Francis Mulhall, MJ Tierney, Collie Barrett
Woodhazel: Eric Cumberton, Wesley Delaney, Robert Warren (Ian O'Reilly, 57), Dylan McLaughlin, Sean O'reilly, James Bell, Paul Delaney, Paul Murray, Lee Somers, Keith Hanney, Thomas Carroll
