Match Report: Seaford Rock United 1-5 Aungier Celtic
LSL Major 1 Saturday
Seaford received a footballing lesson from a top-class Aungier Celtic side, falling to a heavy defeat at Rockfield Park.
The Penguins made a bright start, with Conor Geoghegan hooking the ball across goal inside three minutes, but it just eluded Conor Fennell for a tap-in, and although the visitors largely controlled possession and territory, they didn't create a meaningful chance until Kane Lennox forced Oisin Geoghegan to parry away his strike at goal.
But two Aungier goals late in the half changed the complexion. Jason Doyle opened the scoring after running clean though on goal after the referee decided that Eoin Mahon had caused a new phase in play by attempting to deal with the through-ball while Doyle was offside, and although Mahon later did brilliantly to slide in and deny Jake Donnelly, there was no stopping the big number 9 moments later when he spun and smashed home a volley from 20 yards to make it 2-0.
After half time, Seaford had a golden chance to level straight from tip-off when Stephen Canavan raced onto Jordan Courtney's miscued header but the striker couldn't hit the target with his left, and Lewis Cawley also went close with an angled drive as the Penguins again made a bright start.
But Aungier once again went through the gear to leave Seaford in their wake with three more goals to make it 5-0, with Conor Mooney powering home a header from a corner before Lennox added a pair of clinical finishes.
Killian Campion restored some pride for Seaford with a late header but it was a tough day in the office to start the season for the men in navy.
