Match Report: Seaford Rock United 1-3 Lucan United
LSL Saturday Major 1B
Another week, another meek capitulation from Seaford, who now need a miracle to stand any chance of promotion after their rotten run continued.
It was win-or-bust for both sides at Rockfield Park, with bottom-placed Lucan United needing three points just avoid mathematical confirmation of their relegation, but although the visitors had lost eight in a row before coming to Blackrock, they were thoroughly deserving of their win on the day.
The match followed a familiar pattern for Seaford, as they began brightly, but failed to capitalise on early territory, only to collapse after conceding the opening goal. Ryan Scollard created a great early opportunity for the hosts, but man-of-the-match Daragh O'Doherty managed to divert the ball from underneath his own crossbar, with Stephen Canavan ready to pounce from close range.
Instead, Lucan opened the scoring through Dave Cunningham, who cut in from the left wing and curled a long-range strike that dipped in off the crossbar, and O'Doherty made it two with a deflected free kick, leaving Seaford with a mountain to climb.
Canavan looked most likely to net for the blues, twice going close early in the second half, before Darragh Connolly fired just wide from the angle after Harry Crowe had laid him in but it was all over on the hour mark as Lucan punished a midfield mistake to break forward in numbers, with Weza Coureiro's scuffed effort finding the corner of the net.
The home side pulled one back when Ian Nolan headed into the empty net after Ian Molloy dropped Owen Brayden's free kick, and Seaford put on plenty of late pressure but couldn't notch another, Sam Browne going closest when he volleyed Scollard's cross just over.
Seaford travel to face champions-elect St Kevin's Boys in their penultimate fixture in a week's time.
