Match Report: Seaford Rock United 1-3 Inchicore Athletic
LSL Saturday Major 1C
Seaford paid the price for a below-par display, as they were soundly beaten by Inchicore at Rockfield Park.
The visitors took charge of the game from the early stages and should have been in front inside two minutes when Marine Czernik somehow blazed over the bar with the goal at his mercy after being set up by Adam Maher.
Despite Inchicore’s superiority in the early stages, it was the Penguins who opened the scoring on 26, as Niall Hollera took aim from the edge of the box and produced a precise finish into the bottom corner.
That inspired Seaford’s best spell of the march, and they almost doubled their advantage late in the half when Luke Thomas spilled Holleran’s snapshot but Shane Halpin was unable to convert the rebound.
But after half time, Core reasserted their authority and soon leveled through Ger Maher, who burst through the midfield and produced a powerful finish with the right.
Warren Keogh went close to adding a second for Inchicore just after the hour mark but was unable to generate any power on his close-range effort and Oisin Geoghegan saved comfortably.
But on 67, it was 1-2 due to some luckless Seaford defending as Czernik took advantage of one defender slipping before seeing his shot bobble through another’s legs before nestling in the corner.
Keogh added a third with a header on the goalline minutes later leaving the Penguins with an uphill task and in truth they never looked likely to mount a comeback, instead slipping to a third defeat of the campaign .
