Match Report: Seaford Rock United 1-1 St Patrick's CY
LSL Saturday Major 1
For the second home match s a row, Seaford fell behind very early on, as Eoin Kendrick tapped in after Daniel McGuinness hooked the ball into his path, just three minutes in.
Seaford then took control of the game, with Ryan Scollard heading wide from an MJ TIerney free kick and Stephen Canavan volleying inches past the post, before the Penguins leveled on 19 minutes .Darragh Rpche’s long throw wasn’t properly dealt with by the Pats defense, and Conor Geoghegan blasted home from the edge of the area to level.
Tierney’s deliveries looked the most likely source of another Seaford goal, and in quick succession from his whipped crosses Geoghegan saw a header cleared off the line, before Scollard fired just too high.
The second half of the match was a bleak spectacle as both sides were reduced to direct balls down the field, in an effort to overcome the poor surface at Rockfield Park.
The visitors seemed content to settle for a point, as Seaford made most of the running, but it was Pats who went closest to snatching victory, when Oisin Geoghegan made two brilliant saves to deny first Fern Alvarez and then Abele Ngube within a matter of seconds.
As the game petered out, two Seaford substitutes almost combined for a dramatic winner, as Zitian Xiang flicked the ball into the path of Jamie McCaul, but his rasping drive was beaten away by Andrew O’Dwyer, and it finished one apiece, leaving the Penguins' promotion hopes hanging by a thread.
