Match Report: Seaford Rock United 1-1 Balbriggan
LSL Saturday Premier 1
Seaford were left scratching their heads as to how they failed to win after a string of missed chances cost them two points, in their second 1-1 draw with Balbriggan in the space of five weeks.
Seaford flew out of the traps and it’s no exaggeration to say they could have been three goals up within five minutes. Richie Mulholland had already rattled the underside of the crossbar with a free kick before Colin Barrett opened the scoring, meeting a Mate Salacan corner with a bullet header.
Moments after the restart, Mulholland found himself through one-on-one but his lob was inches over, before Killian Campion put Barrett through again only for Aaron Caldwell to save.
Still within the first ten minutes, Barrett headed a Campion cross inches wide before he rounded Caldwell only to see Andy Reilly clear off the goalline.
Then on 24 minutes, out of the blue Balbriggan levelled through Dylan Thomas, a late deflection giving Mike Frawley no chance.
The second half was a more even affair, with Thomas going close to a second after being laid in by Immanuel Mbikake, but in the final quarter of the match the Penguins re-established supremacy and saw a string of chances go begging. Barrett was at the heart of anything, and it was his fine play down the right that led to a tap-in for Carl Doyle, only for the luckless substitute to blaze over the bar from no more than two yards out.
The outstanding Barrett was guilty of a close-range miss himself minutes later after good work from another replacement, Joe O'Hara, and yet another Seaford sub, Brian Mullally, ought to have sealed the points late on but failed to make a proper connection from 8 yards.
Frawley had to be alert to deny Thomas a smash-and-grab winner, as the keeper made a brilliant stop to deny his point-blank header, but it would have been a travesty of justice for Paulie Morris's men, who will hope to convert strong recent performances into a win at last as they conclude their campaign against Larkview Boys.
Seaford:, Mike Frawley, Conor Fennell, Gavin Walsh , Eoin Healy, Caoimhin Fahy, Mate Salacan (Eoin McArdle, 77), Killian Campion, Rory O'Huiginn (Joe O'Hara, 67) Richie Mulholland (Brian Mullally, 65), Colin Barrett , Cian McCabe (Carl Doyle, 72)
,
