Match Report: Seaford Rock United 0-0 Portmarnock
LSL Saturday Major 1
A blustery stalemate at Rockfield Park, as Seaford produced a fine battling performance, but didn’t quite do enough to secure all three points.
The Penguins’ display was characterised by aggressive pressing high up the pitch, led by the tireless striker Jamie McCaul, In the opening stages, he forced an error from the Portmarnock defence, which MJ Tierney almost punished with an trademark lob from 30 yards.
At the other end, Darragh Roche had to be sharp to deny Alex Boylan a clear chance, and in doing so he almost buried the ball in his own top corner with his saving tackle.
Tierney crossed for McCaul to glance a header just wide, before Eamon Hefallah was put clean through for Portmarnock’s best chances of the match , only for Oisin Geoghegan to deny him with a foot-save.
McCaul and Tierney combined again for a golden Seaford chance late in the half , but for once MJ’s left peg let him down and he side-footed just wide.
There were a fewer chances at either end during the second half, with Seaford coming closest on the hour mark when Al Kennedy‘s corner was flicked on by Sam Browne, but Chris Monk was unable to apply the finish.
The hosts had plenty of the ball, but struggled to create a clearcut opening.
