Match Report: Seaford FC 5-2 St John Vianney
LFA Junior Cup, Second Round
Seaford were far from the best but eventually got the job done in a scruffy game at Rockfield Park.
The hosts made a strong start, opening the scoring through Jamie McCaul after Rob O'Shea had run rings around his man to set up him. But then on 11 minutes both McCaul and Vianney’s Ryan Sheridan were sent off after what seemed an innocuous incident, a decision which left both teams in shock.
And moments later Vianney equalised from the penalty spot courtesy of Callum Murphy, who was also twice denied by Craig Scollard as Seaford began to concede chances.
But Niall Holleran retired the Penguins’ lead shortly before half time when he intercepted a loose pass and ran in on goal to slot past Gareth Donegan.
Seaford made a bright start to the second half and Jack Keegan made it 3-1 from another O’Shea assist, but Niall McKenna halved the deficit just two minutes later
Vianney ought to have leveled through Murphy who headed over the bar from point-blank range after Alan Duffy’s cross-shot, but that was as good as it got for the visitors as Seaford’s substitutes re-energized the team and saw the game out.
(MJ Tierney netted a trademark goal straight from a corner , and the same man set up Timi Silva to bag his first Majors goal and seal the Penguins:’ passage into the next round.
Seaford:, Craig Scollard, Zitian Xiang (Eoin Mahon, 81), Brian Murphy, Luke Hedderman, Dan Keegan, Thomas Murphy (Timi Silva, 67), Peter Bardon (MJ Tierney, 75), Jack Keegan (Ben Kelly, 67) Rob O'Shea , Niall Holleran (Finn O'Neill, 75) Jamie McCaul
