Match Report: Seaford FC 2-0 Malahide United
LSL Saturday Major 1
Elridge Valois produced a virtuoso performance with a goal and a brilliant assist to get the Penguins off to a winning start.
Without a single recognised striker available for selection, Alan Burns asked the powerful Panamanian to do a job up front and was rewarded with a man-of-the-match display.
Valois helped create Seaford’s first chance early on, but debutant Peter Bardon couldn’t find a finish, before he opened the scoring himself with a dipping shot from outside the box.
The hosts had the better of the play for the rest of the half but Malahide had a great opportunity when Conn Gibson got through but the ball wouldn’t sit down for him and his lob went over the bar.
In the first minute of the second half, Michael Akingbade tested Rhys Gilrmartin with a powerful striker after a flowing Seaford move, and the Penguins kept up the pressure , with Jack Keegan almost netting a scissor-kick only to be denied by Manuell Garcia’s goalline block.
Jack Ryder went closest for the visitors with a snapshot after Al Kennedy’s headed clearance but it was Seaford who got the crucial second goal as Valois led a slick cloister-attack which Des Eiffe finished with a low shot into the corner
Gibson went close for Malahide late on but Seaford saw out the game to secure a perfect start.
