Match Report: Seaford FC 1-1 Liffey Wanderers
LSL Saturday Major 1
Seaford were left wondering how they failed to claim three points after conceding a late equaliser and missing a host of even later chances at Rockfield Park.
The Penguins made a bright start and had the better of the play during the first half. Niall Holleran went close on 14 minutes but was unable to force the ball in from a tight angle from Thomas Murphy's cross. At the other end, Gary Mullen went close with a curling effort from range but Oisin Geoghegan was able to tip over the bar.
The closest either came was late in the half when Jack Keegan showed great composure in the box to work the space for a left-footed effort which missed the far post by inches.
Seaford hit the front shortly after the break courtesy of Murphy's sublime free-kick into the top corner. The hosts continued to make most of the running but Liffeys almost nicked an equaliser when Seaford skipper Al Kennedy deflected Kenneth Glennon's free kick towards goal but again Geoghegan reacted well to save.
Substitute Jamie McCaul reinvigorated the home side and only a full-length stop from Eoin Harrington denied him a sensational goal.
That proved a turning point as the visitors levelled the scores with five the play, as Jake Gregg poached an equaliser.
Seaford burst forward in search of a winner, with McCaul denied by a Harrington save, before Rob O'Shea laid in Keegan but the ball just wouldn't sit down and his lob was agonisingly too high. Liffeys broke during stoppage time and Geoghegan did well to keep out Gregg, but there was still time during a breathless finale for McCaul to go even closer to a winner, dinking it inches past the past, before a final save from Harrington denied Michael Akingbade one on one to rescue a point for Wanderers.
Seaford:, Oisin Geoghegan, Zitian Xiang, Brian Murphy, Luke Hedderman, Al Kennedy, Thomas Murphy, Rob O'Shea Jack Keegan Niall Holleran (Michael Akingbade, 69), Chris Monk, (Jamie McCaul, 77) Elridge Valois
