Match Report: Seaford FC 1-0 Dunboyne
Carroll Cup
A second 1-0 home win in a row as the Penguins progressed in the Carroll Cup.
Club stalwart Fionn Geoghegan, made his first appearance in a couple of years in unusual fashion, donning the goalkeeping gloves after a last-minute selection emergency, and delivering a clean sheet in the narrow victory. His first contribution was to catch a ferocious long-range effort from Dunboyne's Gary Phelan, shortly before Desmond Eiffe had Seaford's first effort, dropping his volley just over the bar..
The only goal was bagged by youngster Finn O'Neill,. It was created by Sam Belghazi who produced a neat bit of skill before clipping the ball to the back post, where O'Neill controlled and finished.
The second half was a non-event as Seaford comfortably repelled the Meathmen's efforts to mount a comeback, and while Geoghegan enjoyed a quiet afternoon, he was called upon in injury time to make an excellent one-on-one stop to deny Rian O'Loughlin and seal the Penguins' progress to the next round.
