Match Report: Seaford FC 0-2 Leicester Celtic
LSL Saturday Major 1C
A brave Seaford performance but another defeat for Baz Kirwan’s men, who were hard done by to emerge empty-handed -against title-chasing Leicester Celtic.
Overcoming an enormous physical deficit, the Penguins were the better side before half-time, largely pinning back the visitors, and Shane Halpin twice managed to get the ball past Mark Lew, only to see a defender clear the ball away on both occasions .
In between, Cillian Moloney had the clearest opening for Leicester but poked his shot wide.
The second half saw the visitors wrestle their way back into the game, with Adam O'Leary’s free kick causing a frantic goalmouth scramble shortly before Calum Daly opened the scoring, rifling home from the edge of the box.
O'Leary’s late penalty added sheen to the scoreline but there was still time for a Seaford’s fightback, as Chris Monk twice rattled the crossbar in the dying stages , first with a volley from range and secondly after meeting a Tofi Boukari cross.
Ultimately the Penguins had given themselves too much to do, and despite a third straight defeat, the spirited display will give them encouragement that a first win of 2025 isn’t far away.
