Match Report: Seaford Rock United 6-7 Kilnamanagh
LSL Saturday Major 1B
The scoreline flattered Seaford as they fell to defeat in a madcap game characterised by ruthless finishing and cavalier defending.
The match was wide open from the very outset. In the opening quarter of an hour, Seaford's Tyrone McNelis and Harry Crowe, and Kilnamanagh's Ian Nolan all missed one-on-one chances, but Nolan made no mistake on 17 minutes when he converted Anto Hanavey's through-ball to give the visitors the lead.
Seaford equalised in bizarre fashion when Stephen Faherty's whipped corner was fumbled over the line by visiting keeper Stephen Kelly, who seemed to be impeded by his own defender as he tried to claim it.
Kilnamanagh then rattled in three goals in six minutes to establish an advantage that proved decisive even in a match as loose as this. Hanavey chipped in a penalty after Luke Kelly was penalised for tripping Lee Hurley in the box, before Hanavey again set up Nolan for 3-1, and striker Dylan Kelly made it four.
Seaford fought back, with Tyrone McNelis coolly lobbing the Kilnamanagh keeper from David Devaney's through-ball, before Harry Crowe converted a fine Faherty cross late in the half to make it 4-3.
And shortly after half time, Seaford centre back Kelly was inches from equalising when he met yet another Faherty delivery with a powerful header. But it was the men in yellow who had the extra quality when it counted, Hanavey netting a stunning fifth from a tight angle after an extraordinary jinking run past three opponents, before Nolan set up Hurley to make it 6-3.
Again, remarkably, Seaford bagged two goals in response, with McNelis firing home a penatly before Crowe curled in a low free-kick. But as the navy blues surged forward, they left huge gaps in defence, culiminating in four Kilnamanagh players breaking forward with just Alan Brennan and keeper Eoin English to beat, enabling Nolan to complete his hat-trick with a classy finish from a right angle.
As the clock ticked over 90 minutes, Faherty made it 7-6 from close range from Fionn Lawlor's fine cross, but referee Collie Duffy immediately blew the final whistle and Kilnamanagh departed with the points
