Match Report: Seaford Rock United 4-3 Beggsboro
LSL Major 1B
History repeated itself at Rockfield Park as Seaford beat Beggsboro 4-3 for the second time this season, this time courtesy of an MJ Tierney hat-trick.
The first chance of the match fell to Beggsboro's Paul Fitzgerald, who ran onto a brilliant pass from Eoghan McClean only to be denied by Seaford's debutant keeper Simon McGinty. But McGinty was unable to deal with Niall Kennedy's powerful strike on 15 minutes as the visitors hit the front.
Chris Monk saw a bullet header cleared off the line shortly afterwards, before Seaford leveled with a counter-attack on 33, as Kohei Masaki laid in Tierney to finish coolly with his right foot.
The crucial moment in the match arrived just two minutes after half-time. David Higgins found Tierney inside the box, and the Laois man smashed a shot against the bar, and Monk hooked the rebound past Beggsboro keeper Aaron Kelly, only for Lee Donoghue to handle the ball on the goalline. It was a clear penalty and red card, and Tierney slotted home from the spot.
Seaford doubled their advantage on the hour mark as Higgins fired home from the edge of the box, the visitors hit back immediately with a stunning free kick from Fitzgerald. The home side suddenly looked rattle despite their numerical advantage, with McGinty rescuing them with a brilliant save on 75 minutes after Andreas Todorov set up Dean Mullen, before Fitzgerald fired inches wide from a tight angle.
But Tierney completed his hat-trick with a goal of the season contender on 84 minutes, unleashing an exocet of a shot with his left foot from the tightest of angle, giving Kelly no chance.
Beggsboro rallied again, pulling one back in injury time through Adrian Koniecsny, but Seaford clung on to record their second successive league win.
