Match Report: Seaford Rock United 3-1 Home Farm
LSL Sat Major 1B
Seaford got back to winning ways with a comfortable 3-1 win over a talented Home Farm side.
Seaford had seen their strong recent run come to an end with a disappointing loss at Leixlip United a week earlier, going down to two early goals, but the return to Rockfield Park saw a change in fortune.
The home side hit the front early on through winger Darragh Connolly . Strikers Harry Crowe and Tyrone McNelis combined on the edge of the Home Farm box before Connolly calmly stroked the ball into the corner of the net from 20 yards.
The lead was short-lived, however, as Home Farm levelled on 13 minutes, as Eoin Rogers's corner was headed home at the back post by giant centre back Jack McMullan.
That goal gave the visitors a foothold in the game, with striker Ciaran O'Sullivan curling just wide from long range, but the half hour mark saw a major turning point in Seaford's favour.
A lax throw-in from the yellows in their left back zone was ruthlessly punished by McNelis, who sped past one defender before attempting to lift the ball over goalkeeper Emmett Byrne. Byrne was deemed to have handled the ball outside his area, and the red card that followed was an inevitability. Fullback Jason Murphy donned the gloves, parrying Connolly's free-kick away before smothering the rebound.
Late in the half, McNelis showcased his ballskills with a magnificant dribble on the right wing, but Crowe volleyed his cross just over at the near post.
But McNelis wasn't to be denied for long. In the opening mniutes of the second half, Connolly's fine run down the left wing was ended by a foul, and McNelis whipped the resultant free-kick into the top corner of the net.
A goal down and a man down, but Home Farm were still well in the match, even if they struggled to convert possession into chances. But the home side's pacey forward always posed a threat on the break, and that led to their third goal on 61 minutes. Crowe dummied a long-range shot, instead slipping the ball to McNelis, whose low shot from the edge of the box took a slight deflection on its way into the corner.
The visitors almost hit back immediately, when McMullan unleashed a superb long range drive that was destined for the corner of the net before Oisin Geoghegan produced a breathtaking save to push it around the post.
That was as close as Home Farm came to finding the net, but Seaford continued to seek a fourth. McNelis and Crowe combined again to set up a golden opportunity for Connolly to bag his second of the afternoon, but somehow the Louthman smashed his shot against the crossbar from no more than a couple of yards out.
Home Farm lost their discipline in the dying stages as the match slipped out of their grasp, with a series of ugly tackles and unsavoury off-the-ball incidents, but Seaford kept their heads and saw out the match comfortably to move ahead of their opponents in the league standings.
Seaford: Oisin Geoghegan, Fionn Geoghegan, Paul Tansey, Theo Cullinane, Stephen Kelly, Fionn Lawlor, Paul Lydon (Dave Higgins, 61), Donal Howley (James O'Neill, 55), Darragh Connolly (Paidi O'Fatharta, 71), Tyrone McNelis (Piers Shelton, 79), Harry Crowe
