Match Report: Seaford Rock United 3-0 Lorcan Celtic
LSL Saturday Division 3
Seaford produced another superb display, blowing away promotion-chasing Lorcan Celtic to record a fourth straight win and continue their surging finish to the campaign.
The home side laid down a marker within fifteen seconds, as two of their in-form players combined brilliantly. Ryan Scollard burst past Sean McDonald and centred for David Devaney, who met the cross with a spectacular first-time volley, only to see his effort blocked.
Seaford continued to dominate the early exchanges and notched twice in three minutes to put themselves in a commanding position. First, top goalscorer Peter Tierney forced the ball over the line at the second attempt after his initial header from Fionn Geoghegan's corner rebounded down off the crossbar. Moments later, Tierney laid in Scollard to slot home from close range to make it 2-0.
The visitors gained a foothold in the game during the later part of the half, with Adam Creaney flashing a cross across goal which Colin White was unable to convert from clos range, before White rattled the crossbar with a freekick.
Seaford took hold of the game again in the second half. Substitute Steve Kane was put clean through by Geoghegan moments after half-time but his left,-footed shot was wayward. The home side were content to sit deep and look to pick Lorcan off on the break, with Adam Finnegan and Ian Nolan excelling at centre back, ably protected by Amer Herenda anchoring the midfield. Seaford's third arrived with ten to play, courtesy of another splendid through-ball from Geoghegan, with Conan Murphy speeding through to net via the post.
A seventh win from nine means Tony Bennett's men leapfrog their opponents into fourth place, at least for now, but with matches against the bottom two teams to round off the season, they will be confident of maintaining their strong run til the end of the campaign.
