Match Report: Seaford Rock United 2-4 Liffey Wanderers
LSL Sat Major 1c
Liffey Wanderers produced a clinical display on a muddy quagmire in Rockfield Park , seeing off a spirited Seaford display in the clash of the top two in LSL Sat Major 1C.
The Pearse Street outfit have had the Indian sign over Seaford in recent years, having dished out a number of sound hidings during the previous three seasons, but this was a much closer encounter.
Seaford hit the front within the opening ten minutes when Collie Dolan and Mark Sullivan pressurised an error from the visiting defence, allowing Sullivan to slip the ball past the Liffeys keeper at the second attempt.
The home side's propects suffered a double blow, with both Caoimhin Fahy and Mark Cullen forced off with injury within the opening half hour. To compound the problem, Liffeys scored within seconds of each player suffering his knock to gain a 2-1 halftime lead.
Seaford dominated the early part of the second half and had a number of opportunities to equalise. After Collie Dolan had fired just wide, and his low cross just evaded Paul Lydon for a tap-in, Mark Sullivan's 20 yard effort was briliantly tipped over by the visiting keeper.
Shortly afterwards, however, substitute Paul Lydon made the breakthrough. Jim Nolan and Rory O'Huiginn combined well down the left, and from O'Huiginn's deflected cross, Seaford's top scorer managed to convert from close range.
But partiy was short-lived. Liffeys striker Dean Uzell gave them a 3-2 lead, prodding the ball past Eoin English after initially having been denied by Nolan's superb saving tackle.
When Uzell added his second of the afternoon with ten minutes to play, the games was won, ending any lingering hopes Seaford may have had of a title challenge.
Seaford: E English; S Kane (H Crowe, 79), J Nolan, P Costello, C Fahy ( R O'Huiginn, 24); A Finnegan, J Hussey, M Cullen (P Lydon, 29), P Shelton; C Dolan, M Sullivan. Goals: M Sullivan (9), P Lydon (54)
