Match Report: Seaford FC 2-3 Galty Celtic
LSL Major 1C
Seaford twice came from behind but couldn't manage it a third time against promotion-chasing Galty Celtic.
Inside four minutes, Ben Kelly almost punished a poor Galty clearance with an audacious shot from the halfway line but Edward Curley recovered to catch on his line.
But it was the visitors who opened the scoring on 11 minutes when Conor Kearns punished a defensive slip with an improved finish.
Seaford leveled quickly through Michael Akingbade who prodded home after strong work down the right by Des Eiffe, but the visitors restored their advantage via Facundo Barreto’s penalty shirt Conor Cooney fouled Kenzie Fitzgerald.
And it was 2-2 before half-time when the Penguins worked a short corner and Eiffe met Mate Salacan’s cross with a towering header which Curley was unable to claw away.
Early in the second half, Seaford's speedy wingman Shaun Russell discomfited the reds on two quick breaks, but was unable to convert, first shooting off-target with his left, before knocking the ball past Curley only for a defender to intervene before he could apply the finish.
At the other end, Fitzgerald should have bagged with a free header from Barreto's cross, but instead it was Sean Fraser who netted a controversial winner, tapping in Kearns's wayward shot from close range as the men in navy appealed for offisde.
The same sides will meet again in Seaford's final game of the league campaign, but not before the Penguins travel to face Mount Merrion in the Carroll Cup quarter final.
