Match Report: Seaford Rock United 2-3 CIE Ranch
LSL Sat Major 1B
Seaford got no more than they deserved after a wretched performance against CIE Ranch.
On a poor surface at Rockfield Park, the match was scrappy affair, with neither team offering a great deal of fluency in attacking play. Seaford had already gone close through Conan Murphy when the visitors opened the scoring on six minutes through Paul Mooney, who volleyed home unmarked from 12 yards out after pouncing on a defensive header.
Seaford levelled soon after with yet another stunning free kick from MJ Tierney, only for Ranch to restore their advantage withen Jonathan Fitzpatrick nodded in from close range, from Paul Kavanagh's free kick.
Once again the home side restored parity almost immediately, as Paul Lydon flicked a brilliant near-post header into the net from a Tierney corner, making it 2-2 at half time.
The second half was an ugly spectacle, with few chances at either end before Mooney ran on to a scooped pass from Dean Byrne to slot home what proved the winning goal. Seaford huffed and puffed but struggled to make opportunities, apart from when Murphy saw his point-blank effort kicked off the line, and their final chance came and went during injury time when substitute Darragh Connolly worked an opening but fired inches wide from the edge of the box.
A third defeat on the spin for Seaford leaves them still with some work to do to ensure survival, as they prepare to face high-flying St Mochtas for the second time in a week in less than 48 hours' time.
