Match Report: Seaford Rock United 2-1 Hyde Park
LSL Saturday Division 3
Seaford made it five wins from seven during the space of a month with a hard-fought win to complete the double over Hyde Park.
There was a stark contrast between the two halves, as the home side completely overran thei men from Balbriggan during the opening period, only to find themselves clinging on to the points during a barrage of high balls in the closing stages.
The whites made the running from the outset, with powerful winger Ryan Scollard to the fore in most attacks. Striker Carl Doyle had the first opening, bursting onto Fionn Geoghegan and chipping Andrew Healy, but aiming just wide, before Peter Tierney dispossessed Jack Scanlon, to bear in on goal, only to clip the top of the post, and Healy denied Alan Clarke his first Seaford goal with a fine low save to tip Clarke's snapshot around the post.
But when Seaford eventually did manage to put the ball in the net, it was at the wrong end. Hyde Midfielder David Healy burst into the box with a clever one-two, and his cross was diverted into the net by Robbie Murray.
A bizarre moment on 27 minutes as Murray put Tierney clean through on goal yet again, only for Healy to race out of his box to block the attempted lob with his hand. It seemed clear to everyone on the pitch that Healy was clearly out of his area - other than the referee.
But Seaford didn't have to wait much longer, as Matt Tappin met a Stephen Kelly free-kick with a powerful header to draw them level.
The home sight saw chance after chance go begging. Scollard burst past three defenders only to fire over, then led a lightning break downfield before squaring for Murray, who did likewise.
The breakthrough came just after half time. Substitute Dave Higgins, had already been centimetres from scoring with his first touch after coming on, before striking home a deflected free-kick with his second.
From then on, Hyde gradually forced their way back into the game. Healy went close on the hour mark but lifted his shot too high, , before his namesake the goalkeeper launched a huge punt downfield, from which Dan Dunne forced a brilliant reflex save from Simon McGinty. The closest the visitors came was deep into stoppage time when Ryan McMahon's corner provoked a frantic scramble in the Seaford six-yard box, but Murray came to the rescue by clearing the ball off the goalline and seal the points for Tony Bennett's men.
