Match Report: Seaford Rock United 1-6 Ayrfield United
LSL Sat Div 3
Ayrfield United netted four times in twenty second half minutes to romp to a comfortable win at Rockfield Park.
Both sides came into the matches with perfect records from their opening two matches, but after two dogged away wins during the previous week, it was clear that the opposition would represent a major step-up in class for Seaford.
Ayrfield enjoyed a massive advantage over their hosts in terms of physicality, and they maneuvred the ball stylishly around the pitch during the first half, their movement and combinations suggesting they will make light work of Division 3 during their debut season after moving to the LSL.
Seaford's Ian Nolan had the game's first effort on goal, volleying over the top from Paul Lydon's knock-down, but the men in white were hampered by the loss of two key players to injury late in the half, as first Jim Nolan and then Darren Grealish were forced off.
In between, the visitors scored twice, as striker David McDonnell headed in a left-wing free kick, before Keith Rock's effort crept in to the corner of the net with the goalkeeper unsighted, moments after the same man had cracked a shot against the bar from similar range.
Seaford replied instantly, with Peter Tierney slotting home from Donal Howley's assist, and the home side enjoyed a strong phase at the beginning of the second half as Howley got into dangeous positions down the left, but it didn't take long for Ayrfield to reassert their superiority.
First, Josh McKenna took advantage of a serious lapse in the Seaford defence, racing onto Ward's punt upfrield to fire home, before right winger Ryan Johnson set up two more goals in the space of as many minutes, with McDonald and McKenna each tapping in at the back post to make it 5-1.
The sixth Ayrfield goal was a long-ranger from fullback Mark Glynn as Seaford threatened to unravel entirely, but that was the end of the scoring as Ayrfield extended their lead at the top of the table, a position it would be no surprise to see them retain for the rest of the season.
