Seaford were punished for a very disappointing performance as they suffered a defeat that left their Deane Cup hopes hanging in the balance.
It was a game which was low on quality all round, with all three goals resulting from first-half set-pieces, and for all the possession and territory which the home side enjoyed in the second half, they scarcely mustered a decent effort on goal.
It had been a bright start from the men in white, with Wouter Hoek's backheel setting up Denis Donnelly to drive a ferocious shot at goal which was tipped over by Damian Dominik. From the resulting corner Fionn Geoghegan found his brother Conor at the back post, but Domink managed to block his header with his knees.
Knockmitten's Sean O'Donnell opened the scoring after a quarter of an hour, heading in Kevin Bently's corner at the back post, but Seaford levelled immediately through Donnelly, who looped a header into an unguarded net after Dominik had failed to claim a whipped free kick.
But the visitors re-took the lead on 26 minutes with a Bently tap-in, after his strike partner Keith Archibold had done well to keep Trevor Gregg's looping free kick in play.
Seaford controlled the game after the break but never created any clear-cut opportunties, although Conor Geoghegan was inches from an equaliser when his breathtaking 25 yard volley crashed off the cross-bar. The defeat means Seaford must win their final group stage match against Ratoath Harps and hope other results are kind in order to progress to the quarter-final stages.
