Match Report: Seaford Rock United 0-0 Glebe North
LSL Saturday Major 1
Seaford remain winless in six league matches after failing to break the deadlock despite a couple of golden chances late on against Glebe North.
The first half was an uneventful affair, the only shot on target being Ross Staunton’s effort that David Higgins parried to his right., while the hosts had plenty of possession and a string of corners but struggled to fashion a clear-cut opportunity.
The second half was more open, with Jim Nolan going close for the Penguins after pouncing on a loose clearance, but he dragged his left-footed finish wide. Then, Chris Monk led a swift counter-attack and found Lewis Cawley at the back post, but Cawley's curling effort was brilliantly tipped around the post by Ben Murphy..
Seaford continued to make the running, with Sam Browne heading just wide at the near post from a Paul Tansey corner, but Glebe had a strong spell after 70 minutes, culminating in Staunton forcing Higgins into a brilliant stop to keep the scores level.
But the man in navy were left ruing their luck after twice going agonisingly close in the dying stage. First, two substitutes combined as Stephen Canavan's deft back-heel laid in Conor Geoghegan one-on-one, but Murphy denied him, and the northsiders' stopper was the hero again deep into injury time when Canavan met a Tansey cross with a flick header, but Murphy was able to claw the ball onto the crossbar.
Seaford: David Higgins, Darragh Roche, Paul Tansey, Al Kennedy, Ian Nolan, Sam Browne (Conor Geoghegan, 70), Jim Nolan, Chris Monk (Mike O'Neill, 77), Jack Burke (Stephen Canavan, 70), , Lewis Cawley ( MJ Tierney, 77), Ryan Scollard, ,
Glebe North: Ben Murphy, Bill Sosso (Ashley Vintam), Anto McGuinness, Naz Ajayo, Dan Talabi, Josh Dunbar, Conor Costello, Shaun Whelan (Kevin McKeown), Andy Haran, Anto Sosso (Kieran Vickers) , Ross Staunton
