Sam Browne
Position: M C
One of a number of ex-Mount Merrion men at the club, Hambo joined the club in the summer of 2018 and immediately earned a spot on the Major team, turning in a man-of-the-match display in his first appearance against St Vincent's Hospital before netting a very well taken goal on his home debut against CIE Ranch. He is a dominant influence at the heart of the midfield, a tough tackler and a fine passer, as well as a major threat at set plays.
Browne finished his debut season at the club as top goalscorer for the Majors, with a total of eight goals between both teams.
Subsequent campaigns were less prolific for the Boogler, but there was no denying his quality as a metronomic presence at the back of the first-team midfield, as the team enjoyed successive promotions.
He was more frequently deployed at centre half during the 2022/23, but still managed to produce one of the best assists of the season, with a back-heel flick to lay in Conor Geoghegan's late goal against Swords Celtic. .
HIs 2023/24 season was pockmarked by injury but he was a key performer for the Majors during their nail-biting battle for survival, giving a number of towering performances as the Penguins avoided the drop.
