Match Report: Sacred Heart Firhouse Clover 5-3 Seaford Rock United
LSL Sat Major !A
Seaford’s promotion hopes suffered another big blow as they fell to a third straight defeat against a clinical Sacred Heart side.
The first game back after lockdown was always going to be extremely tough and it couldn’t have been a more challenging fixtures than to travel to face the league leaders, but the Penguins made a bright start and had already fashioned a couple of openings before top scorer Chris Monk arced an inch-perfect volley into the top corner after a Darragh Roche free kick.had found him at the back post.
But the hosts hit back with two goals in as many minutes, first Gerard Hamilton slotting past Barry Ensor from a Ryan Buttner assist before a brilliant solo goal from David O’Keefe, who evaded two defenders to smash home from 20 goals.
Seaford fought back with a man equaliser of their own on 27 minutes. Monk was mere centimeters from hooking Al Kennedy’s corner in at the far post and after the ball rebounded from the post, Ian Nolan teed up Stephen Canavan to bundle home.
But the reds netted three more goals in less than ten minutes either side of half time to give themselves an unassailable lead, as Hamilton converted a Kyle Dixon cross to make it 3-2 at the break, before Alan Breslin volleyed in at the back post from a corner, and then O’Keefe put the outcome beyond doubt with another beauty from range.
Seaford showed some fight and finished the game strongly. Garrett Connolly was unable to beat Alex Nevin when out through one-on-one, but older brother Darragh Connolly pulled one back on 70, taking advantage of confusion between Nevin and a defender caused by Cian McGuinness‘s cross.
That was the end of the scoring however and Seaford find themselves running out of chances to save their season as they face into a crunch match at home to Portmarnock on Monday evening.
