Match Report: River Valley Rangers 0-1 Seaford Rock United
LSL Saturday Premier 1
Seaford had their keeper Robbie Moran to thank after emerging with all three points despite a scruffy display against struggling River Valley Rangers in Swords.
After dominating the first half but failing to add more than a single goal to the scoreline, Seaford almost paid the price in the second period, but twice their keeper came to the rescue to seal the points.
Chris Monk opened the scoring on 13 minutes when Rangers keeper Stephen McNally raced thirty yards off his line to clear his lines, only to shank his clearance to Conan Murphy, whose long range effort was blocked on the goalline by Glynn Higgins, only for Monk to convert the rebound from close range.
Collie Barrett almost doubled the lead when, following a corner, he met a Monk Volley at the back post, but he was unable to convert and late in the half the hosts had their first opportunity when Adam Dent laid in Robbie Pepper, but from a tight angle the winger opted to shoot rather than square, and missed the target.
Shortly after half time, Rangers had a golden chance to equalise when David Mackey was penalised for a clumsy foul in the box on David Daly, but Moran guessed right and parried Conor Burk's spot-kick.
Conan Murphy was Seaford's outstanding attacker in teh second half, frequently bamboozling his marker and supplying key passes, but the nearest he came to creating a goal was when Carl Doyle, was unable to get a clean connection from twelve yards.
At the other end, the two Robbies combined to keep Rangers out in an incredible passage of play with ten minutes left. Burk's curling effort was destined for the top corner before Moran managed to divert it onto the underside of the crossbar with a fingertip, and as the ball bounced down on the goalline it seemed certain that Dent would level the scores as he charged in, but Robbie Murray put his body on the line - literally - and somehow managed to deny the onrushing striker.
That proved the last action of note as the visitors held on to record a fourth win on the spin.
Seaford: Robbie Moran, Darragh Roche, David Mackey (Robbie Murray, 57), Jim Nolan (Adam Finnegan, h/t), Cian McGuinness, Matty Sheehan, Ryan McEnroe (Luke O'Sullivan, 87), Alex Smirnoff (Piers Shelton, 62) , Chris Monk, , Conan Murphy, Collie Barrett (Carl Doyle, 77).
