Match Report: Railway Union 2-2 Seaford Rock United
LSL Major 1 Saturday
Ryan Scollard scored a brilliant injury-time equaliser to rescue a deserved point for Seaford after an exciting game at Park Lane.
Railway started sharply and Mark Shaw fizzed a shot just past the post during the early exchanges, but it was Seaford who opened the scoring, after MJ Tierney's whipped corner kick caused panic among the hosts' defence, with Jeff O'Flynn turning the ball into his own net via the post.
Seaford maintained a dangerous threat on the break, with Eddie Xiang almost getting in after being laid in by Darragh Roche, but Railway levelled on 25 after O'Flynn had won a towering header at the back post and Rory Pratt converted from close range.
And it was Pratt who put the home side in front late in the half, glancing Shaw's free kick into the corner in the net, making it 2-1 at the break.
But the tables were turned after half-time, as Seaford largely controlled possession, albeit that they struggled to penetrate the well organised Railway rearguard. Playmaker Conor Geoghegan was responsible for Seaford's most dangerous attacks, laying first Scollard and then Tierney in, but keeper Josh Claohan was a match for everything the Penguins threw at him including an extraordinary string of corner kicks from Tierney and Al Kennedy, which saw the giant stopper deflect the ball onto his crossbar twice and over it three more times.
But Seaford's persistence paid off in stoppage time, as a flowing move brought them from left back to right wing, where Roche produced a sensational delivery for Scollard to bury a spectacular header and secure a point.
Seaford:, Oisin Geoghegan, Darragh Roche, , Paul Tansey (Chris Monk, 71), Al Kennedy, Sam Browne, Conor Geoghegan , Mike O'Neill, (Killian Campion, 81), Eddie Xiang (Conor Fennell, 71), MJ Tierney, Lewis Cawley, Ryan Scollard
Railway Union: Josh Clapham, Shane Kenny (Cian McCarthy, 90+1), Kenny McCormack, Ethan Webb, Ronan Walsh, Jeff O'Flynn, Mark Shaw, Eoin Murphy (David Flood, , Rory Pratt (Rory Shiggins, 56), Peter Love, Gary Morahan
