After a couple of good cup wins for the Majors in the past week, it's the Premiers who take centre-stage for Seaford this weekend, with a trip to face league-leaders Woodhazel.
Boasting several ex-Ballymun United stars, the northsiders have made light work of the division so far, winning all eight games at at average scoreline of 6-1. And indeed when the sides met in Blackrock earlier in the campaign, it resulted in a defeat of that sort of magnitude for the Penguins, who could at least point to the absence of a number of key players, and the loss of their goalkeeper to a first half injury in mitigation. But with three away wins on a row, the most recent of which saw a number of debutants impress against Pegasus, Dunner's men won't be daunted by their trip to Coultry Park, which will given them a great opportunity to stake their claim as best-of-the-rest in the Premier 1 section.

The Majors made it two cup wins away from home in a matter of days with an impressive win at top-flight side St Patrick's CY in the Lanigan Cup, courtesy of Robbie Creevy's late winner. Earlier, David Higgins had given Seaford a deserved lead during a first half which the Penguins dominated thoroughly, only for Pats to level shortly after the break. Read the full match report here.
Previously, the Seaford had earned a spot in round 2 of the LFA Junior Cup at the expense of St Francis. Again it was a brilliant first half display that went a long way to securing the Penguins' progress, as Seaford raced into three goal lead courtesy of goals from Sam Browne, Chris Monk and Stephen Canavan, but eventually needed an injury time penalty from Ian Nolan to squeeze through.
In a rare coincidence, both Seaford sides will face the same opposition club this weekend, as the Majors welcome Pegasus St James's to Rockfield Park on Saturday afternoon, at the same time as the Premiers will travel to Rosemount Park to take on Pegs.
The clubs are meeting for the first time at Major 1A level, with both sides new to the division for the 2019/20 season, arriving from different directions. Seaford have made a strong start following promotion, with their only league defeat being the midweek midweek loss to Columbas Rovers early in the season,, which has been followed up with back-to-back wins over Kilnamanagh and Killester Donnycarney. Pegasus for their part are just two points behind in the table, so it promises to be another tight match. The Premiers on the other hand have met PSJ frequently over the past couple of years, completing a home and away double in the league last campaign as well as a win in the Rockfield Cup, and have already prevailed in the reverse fixture early in the 2019/20 campaign, when goals from Dave Higgins and Stephen Canavan made it three points for the Penguins. |
