It ended in scoreless in Inchicore as the firsts began their campaign against newly promoted CIE Ranch. Seaford bossed the first half before fading in the second, with a draw a fair outcome on the night. The match report is here.
Both of the clubs' teams begin their league campaigns in the coming days as a a successful schedule of friendlies comes to a close.
The firsts suffered the only defeat of the pre-season clashes, going down 2-0 to a strong Railway Union outfit. The seconds rounded off their preparations with two very comfortable wins. First, they made light work of Spartak Dynamo, from LSL Division 3A last Saturday. Recent signing Conor Tobin opened the scoring in style, before Gavin Stakelum's cross-shot made it two and Mike O'Neill lopped the keeper for 3-0. Spartak pulled one back early in the second half, but Ryan Scollard netted a fourth as Seaford threatened to run riot, with Robbie Murray slotting home the fifth and final goal in injury time. And last night they delivered a fine performance to see off a youthful Shankill FC side. Marc Smith opened the scoring from close range following a goalkeeping error, before debutant Peter Tierney made amends for an earlier howler by finishing impressively after a neat combination move. In the second half, both Tierney and Donal Howley smashed in from range as Seaford eased to victory despite a pair of late consolation strikes for the visitors. The club's competitive season begins on Thursday evening as the firsts travel to Inchicore to face CIE Ranch, ahead of a trip to Clontarf FC on Saturday afternoon, when the seconds will also be in action away to Hyde Park. Seaford have maintained an unbeaten record during the initial pre-season friendlies.
Each of the matches so far has features mixed teams, rather than being specific first or second teams, and indeed there have been some unorthodox-looking line-ups due to availability issues in the matches to date. The pre-season campaign began with a 2-2 draw against ambitious Ardmore Rovers, with stand-in strikers Mike O'Neill and Neil Harrington bagging the Seaford goals. The past week has seen wins over each of our neighbours in Rockfield Park. First, Seaford eased to a 4-1 win over Booterstown United, with Darragh Connolly, Conan Murphy, Matt Tappin and Carl Doyle on target. And an eventful clash with Blackrock College was settled by Doyle's fine last-minute strike to secure a 5-4 win, after Piers Shelton, Paul Lydon and Gavin and Karl Stalklum had earlier found the net.. |
