The club's poor start to the season continued as the seconds lost 4-1 aginast a young and energetic Mid Sutton side in Division 3.
Recent signing Stephen Johnson-Barker, making his first start, gave Seaford an early lead but there followed a lesson in ruthless finishing from Mid Sutton's pacey striker, who rattled in four unanswered goals either side of half time. Seaford finished the game strongly and were desperately unlucky not to close the deficit, with Johnson-Barker and then sub Mark O'Brien both rattling the crossbar with vicious 20 yard strikes, but in truth the gulf in class between the sides was such that a comeback was never likely.

It was a humbling day for the club as both teams suffered 5-1 hidings on Saturday afternoon.
The firsts lost to Beggsboro, with sub Adam Finnegan netting a late consolation, whilst the seconds were beaten by a very talented Clontarf side, with only a Tommy Crichlow free kick to show for their efforts. The first team's recent tradition of an abundance of goals at both ends of the pitch was maintained in extreme fashion as they were beaten 7-6 by Kilnamanagh at Rockfield Park in their second match of the season in Major 1B.
The firsts had to settle for a point in their first match of the new season, drawing 3-3 with St James's Gate in a thrilling match played at a good tempo in Blackrock. In the space of five first-half minutes Tyrone McNelis gave Seaford the lead with a stunning volley, before Gate equalised and Harry Crowe made it 2-1 with a classy finish of his own.
It has been confirmed that Stephen Nolan will assist Alan Burns with the Seaford first team for the coming season. Nolo has decided to hang up his gloves and move into management, with the side beginning its Major 1B campaign at home to St James's Gate this afternoon.
The firsts had a good pre-season work-out at Rockfield Park this morning with a 3-2 win over TEK United.
There was no sign of the two-division gap between the two sides as an experimental Seaford line-up took a deserved lead courtesy of a brilliant volley by Paul Lydon in the first half. The advantage was short-lived, however, as Darragh Roche was unfortunate to head an equaliser into his own net just moments after the restart. TEK hit the front shortly after half time with a header from a whipped free-kick. But Roche made amends by heading another equaliser, this time at the right end of the pitch, before Mike O'Neill capped a superb individual display by slotting home the winner. Both Lydon and Frank Daly missed fine changes late on to extend the lead, but it was a very encouraging result and performance for the navy blues. Meanwhile the seconds were beaten 4-2 by Booterstown United in their latest pre-season outing, with Tony Bennett and Shane Lauritsch on the scoresheet. |
