Post-Pandemic Problems For Penguins

Although the club has been delighted to return to action after the easing of COVID restrictions, the first weekend has been one of frustration for Seaford, largely due to a couple of injury time penalty decisions.

There was good news in that the temporary re-opening of the LSL transfer window to facilitate the signing of free agents enabled some fine players to come back to the club, with the likes of Matty Sheehan and Conor Geoghegan returning to the Penguins.

The Majors couldn't have had a tougher fixture list , facing the top two in the space of three days, with a mounting injury list. Sacred Heart showed no rustiness in the first game, back, easing to a 5-3 win in Killinarden Hill, before a highly controversial ending to the match against Portmanock at Rockfield Park saw the visitors nick a last-gasp draw after a strange penalty decision.

Meanwhile, the Premiers, having gone the entire league campaign without a single draw, have now had two in a row, both on the road.  They were desperately unlucky not to take more from their first game back. Goals from Christian McKenna, Matteo La Placa and Peter Tierney capped a fine performance away to Stella East Wall, but the hosts has the last say to grab a 3-3 draw. Then followed a trip to Vianney Boys where Seaford fell behind early on only for Geoghegan to smash home a stunning volley to level the scores.

There's no let up in the hectic schedule, as the Majors travel to face Drumcondra on Saturday 25, while the Premiers have a double header, at Rockfield Park, hosting Garda and then Transport next weekend.
