S Timi Silvaeaford came back from the dead to squeeze into round three of the FAI Junior Cup in a madcap clash that ended nine-a-side and went the distance.

The Penguins made the brighter start, with Rob O'Shea's left-foot volley orcing a brilliant save from Christopher Shannon, before the same man burst through on goal but fired just wide. 

At the eother end was Oisin Geoghegan alert to deny Marcos Martín Guijarro with his feet as Bond counter-attacked, but it was Seaford who hit the front on 22 . The goal was created by Darragh Roche's tireless work to recover the ball  and tee up Jack Keegan, who picked out the underside of the crossbar with his precise finish. 

Bond restored parity before long, as Killian Zambra converted from close range after Harrison McGrane Lynch had nodded a corner back across goal.

The Penguins made most of the running during the second half but were unable to find a goal, and they suffered a blow when Ryan Scollard picked up two yellow cards in quick succession around the hour mark.

The hosts looked to ahve won it on 84 minutes when Zambra nodded home his second from close range, after Sam Lyons's cross deflected fortuitously into his path with the goal at his mercy.

And it looked like Seaford's race was run on as the clock ticked over to 90 minutes when Timi Silva also picked up a second yellow and joined Scollard for an early bath. 

But remarkably, deep into injury time, Seaford grabbed an equaliser.when Scott Thompson, in a desperate effort to intercept Keegan's through-ball, managed to divert the ball past Shannon and into his own net.

As the game went into extra time, the nine man of Seaford still had a mountain to climb, but Bond didn't do themselves any favours as Guijarro  was dismissed for violent conduct, and incredibly it was soon 9 v 9 as McGrane Lynch ws also sent.

It was anyone's game now, and Bond hit the front thorugh a Sean Byrne Quinn. But again, the Penguins showed their resilience, and as the final whistle drew near, Keegan 's cross was handled in the box and the same man stepped up to nervelessly convert the penalty.

In the shoot-out, Seaford's spot-kicks were flawless as Keegan, O'Shea and Fionn Nally made no mistake.. Bond saw two of theirs rebound for the woodwork, so it fell to the veteran Sam Browne to lash home the winner and set up a round three clash with Booth Road Celtic.

Seaford prevailed in a madcap relegation dogfight, pulling clear with an impressive second-half showing.

The sides shared six goals during a breathless opening period.  Jack Keegan opened the scoring from the spot, but Hugo Nicholls leveled for Trinity with a spectacular finish from 40 yards to punish a mishit clearance, and then Fionn Henry made it 1-2.

Seaford leveled when Jamie McCaul finished a slick team move with a clever lob, only for Dylan Fox-Arnold to out the visitors back in front, taking advantage of slack defending off a free kick.

Seaford fought back again, with Keegan heading home for 3-3 after a Ryan Scollardflick-on. 

And Wacko Jacko completed just second ever Seaford hat-trick with another penalty, after he himself was taken down by keeper Aaron Breen.

From that point, the Penguins always looked likely to increase their lead. McCaul was inches from converting a low Scollard cross after Eddie Xiang’s throw-in, and Breen got the slightest flick to a Keegan corner which was as enough to prevent Greg Hughes  from getting clean contact at the back post for what would have been a certain goal. 

In the end it was Daniel Mac Dermott who made the points safe with a powerful strike from range, and in truth the Students rarely threatened from that point, although  Henry went close with a rasping drive that clipped the post.

The win moves Baz Kirwan’s boys level with DU at the foot at the table , with all the play for during the final month of the season.
